This is your reminder that you know your body better than anyone else. It’s okay to ask ALL of the questions. If your doctor is dismissing your concerns, get a new one. If you feel like something is ‘off’, be persistent until you get the answers you’re looking for. Because if you don’t advocate for your health, no one else is going to do it for you. ✨ . . January is National Thyroid Awareness Month. Did you know that hypothyroidism and low thyroid hormone levels can impact your fertility? For one, hypothyroidism can prevent ovulation. It can also interfere with the development of an embryo, thus increasing the risk of miscarriage. That’s why it’s so important to have your thyroid hormones checked if you are TTC. . . As for me, after months of fatigue, digestion issues, and acne flares, I finally have some answers: I have “mild” hashimotos. The good news is, my TSH levels went down from 110 to 9 in just under a month. 🎉 My doctor increased my dose of Levothyroxine to 100 mcg, and she said hopefully I’ll stay there for a while. I go back next month to re-check my levels, but right now I’m so happy I went to the doctor when I did and am finally feeling better. Thank you for all of your sweet messages and recommendations—this community is truly the best. 💖
"You see, my husband and I are both siblings, and the guilt I have around our son not having a brother or a sister is immense. The other day, I watched a storyline on TV where two sisters in their 40’s were mourning the loss of their mother—together—and I was instantly struck with sadness that Phoenix won’t have that support when the inevitable happens to myself or my husband.⠀ ⠀ In making the decision to donate your embryos, you will have to accept that there is grief involved. "I would be lying if I said infertility hadn’t broken me. I would be at work, helping deliver babies, and I would get patients on drugs, pregnant from one-night stands, patients from prison, etc. Sometimes, I would get asked if I had kids. When I would say no, some patients would tell me I was LUCKY. I went home countless nights and bawled, selfishly, at how unfair life was. I would ask God why I didn’t get to be a mother when those women did. I’ll be the first to admit that I know how wrong that is. How cruel that is to ask. But infertility doesn’t care. It isolates you and it twists your thoughts. It speaks lies over you and makes you feel like a failure. To add to my pity party, two of my best friends gave birth to two of the most beautiful humans I’ve ever seen during this time. It’s crazy how happy you can be for someone, but how jealous you can be at the same time." -@empowering_you . . “Want to know a secret? Okay, well it's not really a secret because I'm pretty open on here, but I'm gonna be honest with ya'll, I did not have a lot of hope for our embryo transfer. I've seen other warriors struggle, and I've seen the stats on embryo transfers taking, so I was fully prepared for it not to work. So prepared, in fact, that I practiced songs I would cover to display the grief of a failed transfer. I made no plans for what to do if it worked. Once it did work, I was terrified. It took me a while to feel a bond with him. I was so scared to get excited and plan for him because I didn't want my heart to fall apart again. And ya know what? I'm still terrified. The days are literally ticking down and I sit sometimes, just staring at this miracle belly wondering what in the hell I've done. Logically, I know I can birth this baby. Logically, I know that we're ready to be parents, but telling this brain that?? Yea, that's a different story. I'm starting to think adding a countdown widget to my home screen was a bad idea, because this anxiety building up is bound to explode at some point. If you're feeling anything similar, here's something a friend told me that has helped. The anxiety is normal, the paranoia is normal, the fear is normal. All of these feelings are coming from a place of unconditional love. It's our instincts kicking in, and while the emotions can be confusing, they're perfectly normal. There's no need to feel guilty if you're feeling more than one way. Because while this anxiety feels suffocating, I'm also so incredibly excited I can barely contain it.” -@batstitchbailey . . Pregnancy after infertility is hard, and often it’s not talked about nearly enough, for a lot of reasons, survivor’s guilt being one of them. But the truth is, the scars of infertility don’t fade the minute you get a positive pregnancy test, and it’s important for those stories to be shared as well. So today we’re sending lots of love to those navigating the anxiety of pregnancy after infertility & loss, especially with so much other uncertainty going on in the world. 💖 . .
